- Safety Enhancement
An ideal program contains three key interconnected pillars, each with specific objectives that are all critical to implementation and self-sustainability through recurring inspections, maintenance, and documentation.
The implementation of an Electrical Maintenance Program (EMP) helps direct the activities associated with maintaining your electrical equipment per manufacturers specifications. The EMP should also be designed to operate in conjunction with an overall Electrical Safety Policy and Program.
The first pillar creates the plan’s foundation by giving your organization a comprehensive inventory and understanding of your assets, while establishing a centralized database to document and track everything.
The second involves assessing the condition of your assets, identifying potential hazards through visual and infrared inspections, performing any necessary repairs, and collecting or updating system data to perform or update an arc flash study.
The third focuses on conducting regular scheduled maintenance and tracking changes in your electrical system to reduce risk, improve employee safety, improve asset performance, reduce unexpected equipment failures and lost revenue, all while extending the reliability and lifespan of your equipment.
The EMP and your AMP should be designed to operate in conjunction with an overall Electrical Safety Policy and Program.
J.W. Didado can help you meet the requirements of NFPA and OSHA standards.
Empower Your Business with AMP
Developing and executing an effective Equipment Maintenance Plan (EMP) on your own can be challenging and time-consuming.

STAGE 1
DOCUMENT
Inventory Your Assets
Our highly skilled, dedicated professionals will conduct an initial audit of your electrical system and equipment external current conditions. We’ll tag your equipment with smart labels and document your assets to provide you with a complete equipment inventory. Then we’ll provide a proposal for Stage 2 to collect the required data to complete or update an existing arc flash study and/or for equipment inspections and maintenance for your assets.
STAGE 2
ASSESS
Determine the conditions and hazards related to your assets
The scope of work for Stage 2 will include determining the internal condition of your equipment (Equipment Condition Assessments (ECM), take interior photos to include Infrared images, and document the details of your existing protective devices, settings, and wiring configurations.
We’ll leverage our preventative maintenance program to inform you of any necessary repairs based on our findings from the initial stage. We’ll address issues with your equipment that could result in safety concerns, poor performance, and even complete failures that impact your operations and profitability.
Lastly, we’ll document all repair work, including any changes made to your system’s configuration. This is critical for maintaining an effective program at all levels of your business including safety, compliance, troubleshooting, system performance, maintenance and future planning.
STAGE 3
MAINTAIN
Preserve your assets
We’ll provide visibility into your entire electrical system through our cloud-based platform — a comprehensive, online portal that will become the command center of your Asset Management Program. You’ll be able to view assets from the comfort of your own office while simultaneously being able to discuss issues with field personnel looking at the same information from the field. You’ll be able to schedule maintenance, track changes, store documents and monitor trends in each facility, and expand your system as your business evolves.
Our platform acts as a data warehouse that captures critical information about your electrical system and makes it accessible to address any internal auditing needs or to prove compliance to external entities. The data stored in your portal is encrypted and secure via ongoing SOC2 Type 2 certification and can’t be accessed by anyone outside your organization without your authorization.
Our AMP Platform facilitates a broad range of asset management aspects, including:
Information management
Centralized location to store your complete equipment inventory list; company policies, procedures, and records; digital panel schedules; and other valuable information
Preventative maintenance
Provides automated reminders and scheduling for ongoing preventative maintenance requirements, including thermal imaging
From improving worker safety to ensuring compliance with NFPA & OSHA regulations, to providing ongoing preventative maintenance support, the J.W. Didado AMP Program delivers a critical link in the overall Safety Policy and Electrical Safety program for your business.
How OSHA and NFPA Changes Impact Your Business
OSHA and NFPA both strive to assure safe, healthful working conditions for employees by setting and enforcing standards, as well as by providing training, outreach, education, and assistance.
Within the electrical industry, OSHA and NFPA require that employees be trained to recognize and protect themselves from specific electrical hazards. For this, OSHA relies on the guidance established by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) — specifically, through NFPA 70E and NFPA 70B. The former focuses on decreasing workplace injuries and fatalities due to shock, electrocution, arc flash, and arc blast. As an employer, you must follow the 70E standard to comply with OSHA laws.
The lesser known 70B covers preventative maintenance for electrical equipment used in industrial, institutional, commercial, and large multi-family residential dwellings, and focuses on avoiding equipment failures that could cause fires and injuries.
Until May 2023, 70B was merely regarded as guidance. However, it is now considered a standard requirement your business must follow. Additionally, 70B contains new information on how frequently inspection and maintenance tasks are to be performed on specific equipment to properly maintain it. When determining frequency rates, 70B now considers the condition of the equipment, and looks at factors such as operating conditions, criticality, and operating environment. Importantly, 70B also requires businesses to develop, implement, and maintain an Electrical Maintenance Program (EMP) which includes detailed, accurate inspection and maintenance documentation and data.
Failing to follow the 70E and 70B standards could result in significant OSHA fines and other penalties. Even worse, it could mean greater risks and hazards for your company. These could potentially lead to accidents, fatalities, lawsuits, and higher insurance rates. In contrast, compliance with the standards results in a safer work environment for your employees, increased system reliability, the ability to budget your electrical system maintenance, and a piece of mind knowing you are doing all you can to protect your business from unexpected incidents, accidents, and loss of revenue.
